FTC Imposes Guidelines on Bloggers Who Accept Promotional Gifts

The Federal Trade Commission has imposed new guidelines “requiring bloggers to disclose gifts or promotional items from companies they write about. Failure to do so might even result in fines.”  Given the power that bloggers have on society in this day and age, the FTC is attempting to control bloggers from giving favorable reviews because of a gift or freebie that they received.  The FTC is also attempting to hold blogs just as accountable as newspapers and magazines who face similar guidelines regarding promotional gifts and products received.  All that’s expected of bloggers is to mention in their entry if a product was provided to them for free so the reader knows whether they’re getting an impartial review or not.  In the long run, reader loyalty will increase when the reader knows that the blogger has their best interests at heart.
